Overcrowding at the Regina Humane Society has them in desperate need for adoptive families. The shelter is currently housing 273 animals, including 183 cats and 82 dogs.
“We always seem to be bringing in more than we’re adopting out,” said Director of Communications Don Simons. “When it gets to a point we have so many animals like we do now we run into the risk of not being able to give them that quality of life. They’re not going to get the walks that they need, they’re not going to get the grooming or the brushing, and it becomes a problem because our staff can only do so much.”
Simons is encouraging families to spay or neuter their pets. The Society can even offer free or a reduced cost procedure for low income families.
