Overall crime numbers are down in Regina, according to a mid-year report released by the Regina Police Service.
Between January 1 and June 30, 2010, police responded to 10,690 reported crimes, which is down over two per cent from mid-year 2009 and 35 per cent less than 2001 during the same time frame.
For crimes against people, numbers were down 5.8 per cent from the year before, and 13.6 per cent fewer than 2001.
Break and enters were down 62 per cent from 2001. There were 1,780 break and enters in 2001 and 677 in 2010.
Vehicle thefts were down dramatically from 2001 when there were 1,825 thefts. By mid-year 2010 there were only 567, for a 68.9 per cent decrease. Police credit the decrease with the success of the Regina Auto Theft Strategy.
Homicide numbers were up from 2009. There were three in the first six months of 2010, not including a triple homicide that occurred in early August.
